Miriel Serinde

Also known as: Miriel Therinde, The Broideress

Miriel Serinde -- the Broideress, most skilled of the Noldor in works of the hand and needle -- was the first wife of Finwe and the mother of Feanor. So wholly did she pour her spirit and strength into the bearing of her son that afterward she was consumed by weariness of life, and she went to the gardens of Lorien in Aman and there released her spirit to the halls of Mandos. Against the counsel and hope of the Valar she would not return to her body, choosing to remain among the dead -- an unheard-of thing in the deathless land. Her choice freed Finwe to wed again, and so brought Indis and her children into the world, and with them the seeds of the strife that would divide the House of Finwe.
