Aranruth, the Ire of the King, was the sword of Elu Thingol, King of Doriath, one of the most renowned blades of the Elder Days. It survived the ruin of Doriath and was kept by his heirs; and in after ages, the tradition holds, it passed into the treasuries of Numenor and was borne by the Kings of that realm, until it was lost at the last in the Downfall.
