Also known as: The Father Of Dragons, The Great Worm, The Deceiver
The first of Morgoth's dragons, bred in Angband. Glaurung was a fire- drake but could not fly. He was immensely cunning and possessed a terrible power of enchantment through his eyes, which could paralyze and bewitch those who gazed into them. He destroyed Nargothrond, cast a spell of forgetfulness upon Nienor, and deceived Turin into abandoning the pursuit of Finduilas. He was ultimately slain by Turin, who drove the black sword Gurthang into his belly from beneath. As Glaurung died, his spell on Nienor broke, and the revelation of the truth led to the tragic deaths of both Nienor and Turin.
