The mightiest of all winged dragons, bred by Morgoth as his ultimate weapon. Ancalagon led the host of winged dragons in a last desperate assault during the War of Wrath. He was so vast that when Earendil, flying in his sky-ship Vingilot, cast him down, Ancalagon's fall broke the towers of Thangorodrim. His defeat marked the end of Morgoth's power.
