The Black Sword: forged as Anglachel by Eöl the Dark Elf from iron that fell from the sky, a blade with a dark heart that grieved and spoke. Beleg Cúthalion bore it to rescue Túrin, and by bitter mischance died on its edge at his friend's hand. Reforged for Túrin as Gurthang, the Iron of Death, it slew Glaurung the dragon — and when Túrin, learning the full measure of his doom, asked it for death, the sword answered aloud that it would gladly drink his blood, and broke beneath him.
