Also known as: The Hammer Of The Underworld
Two weapons of dread have borne this name. The first was the Hammer of the Underworld, the great mace of Morgoth himself, which rang like thunder against Fingolfin and tore pits in the earth at every stroke. In its memory the hosts of Mordor named the second: the hundred-foot battering ram, wolf-headed in black steel, wrought in Mordor to break the Great Gate of Minas Tirith. Drawn by great beasts and driven by the Witch-king's spells of ruin, Grond broke the Gate that no enemy had ever passed — and in the gateway stood Gandalf.
