Anborn was a Ranger of Ithilien in Faramir's company, keen-eyed in the dusk beneath the trees. It was he who first spied Gollum slinking by the Forbidden Pool below Henneth Annun, and he would have shot the creature but for Faramir's leave; instead Frodo was sent down to coax Gollum into Faramir's hands, and his life was spared once more. Anborn's woodcraft was reckoned among the keenest of the Rangers who held the secret war in Ithilien.
