The Gladden Fields

The reedy marshes where the Gladden River meets the Anduin, twice a hinge of the world's fate. There Isildur was ambushed by orcs in the second year of the Third Age; the Ring slipped from his finger in the water and betrayed him to his death, and was lost for two and a half thousand years. And there, long after, the hobbit-like Déagol found it in the river-bed — and his friend Sméagol strangled him for it as a birthday present to himself.
