Also known as: Father Of Horses
Felarof was the first of the Mearas, the noble horses of Rohan that understood the speech of Men and would bear no rider but the king. Leod, father of Eorl, sought to tame him and was thrown and slain; but Eorl claimed the horse as weregild for his father, and named him Felarof, and the proud beast submitted to him and served him ever after without bit or bridle. Felarof bore Eorl to the Field of Celebrant, and from him descended Shadowfax and all the mearas of the later Mark.
