Also known as: The Water Of Awakening
The Water of Awakening, the bay in the far east of Middle-earth beside which the Elves first awoke under the stars, before the Sun and Moon were made. The first thing they saw was starlight, and the first sound they made was speech — wherefore they named themselves Quendi, those who speak with voices. Oromë found them there, and from Cuiviénen began the Great Journey into the West. The world is changed, and the saying among the Elves is that there is no returning: Cuiviénen is gone.
