A great Orc chieftain of Moria who killed Thror, King of Durin's Folk, and desecrated his body by carving his own name on Thror's forehead. This outrage sparked the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, culminating in the Battle of Azanulbizar before the East-gate of Moria, where Azog was slain by Dain Ironfoot.
