Eldacar was a king of Gondor in the Third Age, son of King Valacar and a princess of the Northmen of Rhovanion, and so of mixed blood -- which the proud of Gondor could not abide. His half-blood kindled the ruinous civil war called the Kin-strife: he was driven from the throne by the usurper Castamir and forced into exile among his mother's people, until he returned at the head of an army of the North, slew Castamir, and won back his crown. He ruled long, but the war he survived left Gondor weakened and its southern provinces estranged.
