A Beginner’s Guide to Quenya Noun Cases
Quenya can attach endings to nouns to show relationships that English often expresses with word order or prepositions. These case endings are among the language’s most recognizable grammatical features.
The major cases

Cases carry meaning that prepositions carry in English
Endorenna can express motion to Middle-earth through the allative ending, while Endoressë expresses location in Middle-earth through the locative. An instrumental form such as macilinen identifies a sword as the means by which an action is performed.
The genitive and possessive overlap but are not identical. The genitive often describes source or relationship; the possessive more strongly characterizes something as belonging to, made from, or defined by the possessor.
Number and stem changes matter
A case ending does not always attach to the visible dictionary form unchanged. Plural markers, stem forms, final vowels, and sound combinations can alter the result. Dual and partitive-plural case forms add further paradigms.
For this reason, learning a list of endings is the beginning of case grammar rather than a complete algorithm for every noun.
What Lamethir implements
Lamethir’s beta morphology recognizes or generates selected singular and plural genitive, dative, allative, ablative, locative, and instrumental forms from clear English triggers. It also handles some possessive constructions elsewhere in the noun-phrase pipeline.
The engine intentionally does not claim every dual-plus-case fusion, partitive plural, stem alternation, or historical variant. Direct dictionary forms remain authoritative over productive rules, and reverse analysis strips an ending only when rebuilding the candidate reproduces the original Quenya word.
