Mae govannen — welcome to Lamethir

hello travelers,

Welcome to the site. Earlier this year, i dipped my toes into the "vibecoding" craze and this project is the result. I had never done any programming for consumer applications, so I was curious to see how hard it would be. I am pretty opinionated when it comes to design, so i figured it would be fun to graduate from armchair critic to armchair vibe-designer. it's been a lot of fun.

thanks to claude, this project was incredibly easy. It was made with a $20/month pro subscription and about $50 in credits when i got impatient one week. I learned a lot about hosting, analytics, next.js, SEO and lots of other things. But since most of those issues were resolved in a single session and never revisited, I've forgotten almost everything i learned. in one ear out the other i suppose. this project took around 15-20 hours, and the vast majority of that time was signing up for free tiers of Netlify, Umami Cloud, Supabase, and other services. Seems like the only major roadblocks to one-shotting this project with Fable will be 2FA, email signups, and a credit card.

one thing that surprised me was how often I had to resist the urge to do evil. i often wondered if i could monetize this, and thought about ways to get users to stay on this site more. i went into this project fully committed to avoiding all dark patterns and being as anti-dark pattern as possible, but i still felt the constant pull. some things i caved on, like making the site more SEO friendly. it really feels like AI is ring-like: incredibly powerful, but potentially dangerous in ways that are hard to notice. but some things cannot be unforged, and we'll have to find ways to live with this, so here's my contribution.

i hope you enjoy Lamethir!
